This article introduces you to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and explains how we as individual Rotarians and as a Club both support it and employ its capabilities to further our work.  It is published in three parts. This is part 1.

The Foundation  is a nonprofit corporation organized as a public charity. It is governed by a Board of Trustees. It is separate from but an integral part of Rotary International.

As Rotary’s charity arm, the Foundation is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of Rotary International who share Rotary's vision of a better world.

As Rotarians, we envision a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change - across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Annual Report is the single best overview of the Foundation and its global activities. You’ll find the Foundation’s financial reports here.

From nearly the very beginning of Rotary, Rotarians have been about service above self. In fact, the first service project was establishing public restroom facilities in Chicago. The Foundation itself was envisioned in 1917, and the very first donation to what later became the Annual Fund was made that same year. We are a service organization first and foremost.

Today, The Rotary Foundation transforms our donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. Over the past century, the Foundation has spent $3 billion dollars on life-changing, sustainable projects. Rotarians focus on seven Causes (sometimes referred to as our “Areas of Focus”). In prioritized order, they are:

Promoting Peace and Conflict Prevention / Resolution

     Disease Prevention and Treatment

Providing Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

     Maternal and Child Health

     Supporting Education

     Economic and Community Development

     Protecting the Environment

All projects, scholars, and vocational training teams funded by global grants work towards specific goals in one or more of the Foundation’s seven areas of focus. Find more detail, here

Rotarians contribute to our progress on the seven causes through a variety of programs. Below, you’ll find a list of the programs, an introductory link, and our Club’s point of contact for each. The programs in which our Club is currently active are bolded.

Your participation would be welcomed in any of Rotary’s programs or our Club’s projects and programs!
