The East Jefferson County Rotary Club (EJRC) is John Erickson’s fifth Rotary membership.  He joined this club in 2010, after retiring from a 40-year career in education.  John was a founding member of the Rotary Club in Stayton, Oregon.  John has enjoyed participating in all of the Rotary clubs where he has been a member over the last 35 years or so, and continues to contribute to the activities and projects initiated by the EJRC.  He was club president in 2016-2017.

John Erickson grew up in Beaverton, Oregon where he was a three-sport varsity letterman, played in the band, and sang in the choir.  He earned his B.A. and M.Ed. from Willamette University, where he played varsity football and tennis, was a student body leader, and continued participation in band and choir.

John’s Ph.D. is from Oregon State University.  His school administration credentials were awarded by the University of Oregon.

John met his wife, Susan, when they were young English teachers in a new high school.  Susan taught English to students ranging from community college to seventh grade.  John and Susan have an adult-aged daughter, Jenny.

John’s career included teaching and coaching, and numerous administrative assignments.  In Oregon, he served as Superintendent in the Stayton School District, Superintendent in the Lincoln County School District, and an interim appointment as Oregon’s Superintendent of Public Instruction.

John has authored articles for professional journals, and has served as a speaker at state, regional, and national conferences.  He is proud to have been elected by his peers to be President of the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators (COSA) and President of the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA).  John completed his career by serving as Superintendent in Vancouver, Washington.  He retired in 2008.

John and Susan enjoy reading, gardening, travel, and paddling their canoe.  They have had a home in Port Ludlow for 20 years, and are supportive of various arts and community organizations.
