The Annual Fund is the primary source of funds that support The Rotary Foundation’s programs and areas of focus. Rotarians are strongly encouraged to donate each year to the Annual Fund. During the recent Rotary Year, we are proud to note that nearly all members of our Club supported the Annual Fund.

At the end of every Rotary year, contributions to the Annual Fund-SHARE from all Rotary clubs in a district are directed into two funds:  half goes to the World Fund, and half goes to the District Designated Fund.

The Foundation uses the World Fund portion to pay for the worldwide global grant and program opportunities available to all Rotary districts.

Our district uses the District Designated Fund portion, which comes from the Clubs in our District, to fund the Foundation grants and programs of its choice.

The Rotary Foundation’s funding cycle makes district contributions available for use three years after they are received. The three-year cycle gives districts time to plan projects and activities and allows the Foundation to invest the contributions to meet the Foundation’s operating expenses.

The District 5020 Rotary Foundation committee, headed by Chair Howard Svigals, decides how to use the District Designated Funds (DDF) in consultation with the clubs in the district. To use the funds made available for a project, each Club must apply for a District Community Grant for the upcoming Rotary Year. The Clubs that don’t apply don’t get to use the available funds - its really as simple as that.

Districts may use up to 50 percent of their District-designated funds for individual District Community Grants at the Club level; the remainder may be used for global grants or be donated to PolioPlus, Rotary Peace Centers, pooled endowed funds, World Fund, or another district. How much is allocated to “other than District Community Grants” as above depends, in a large degree, as to how much money clubs apply to use.

The Annual Fund-SHARE program is working well to ensure we have the opportunity to transform our donations into good works in the world at both the local community level and at the global level.
