Rotary is dedicated to six areas of focus to build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to support our peace efforts and end polio forever. Taking action to save mothers and children is one of those areas.

Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. Rotarians expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.

Rotary provides education, immunizations, birth kits, and mobile health clinics. Women are taught how to prevent mother-to-infant HIV transmission, how to breast-feed, and how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

As an example, here is an interesting video showing how Rotarians made it possible to provide mobile pre and post-natal care to rural Haitians.

The Haitian project was supported by the Rotary Club of Western Henrico County in District 7600 with support from the Rotary Club of Bon Air, the Rotary Club of Henrico North, Hermitage High School Interact club, Bon Secours Health Systems, and local individual donors. Funding was also provided by a grant from the Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund, a donor advised fund set up by The Rotary Foundation.
